Sew Mama Sew Giveaway

It's Sew, Mama, Sew giveaway week! Woot! The most wonderful week of the year!

Jill Dorsey & Made with Moxie: A blog about selfish sewing, creative making, and sewing as an outlet for life.
Some of the things I made this year. Like my style? Start following along!

If we've never met before: Hi! Howdy! How you doing? My name is Jill and this is Made with Moxie. I make clothes, bags, quilts and other crafty crap. I've got two small kids, a fierce spirit, and I'll always give it to you straight. I live life to suck the marrow from it and have no regrets.

I'm keeping it short and sweet today though, since we all just want to know how to enter quickly so we can get on to entering other giveaways. I adore Instagram and Pinterest, so if you use those sites, let's get to know each other!

My only request is that you start following me on Instagram or Pinterest, then leave me a comment here telling me which you did. Heck, you can do both for a double entry. Please make sure you leave me your email address in your comment as well so I can let you know when you have won. ;)

Win a free paper pattern of the Alder Skirt from Made with Moxie

I'm giving away a paper copy of the Alder Skirt pattern designed by imagine gnats. It's a simple skirt pattern that comes in a huge size range. Wear it with tights and boots in the cool weather or a tee and sandals when it gets warm. It's a sweet pattern because you can make it in so many different fabrics. One winner will be randomly selected on Monday, December 15th and will be notified by email. If you do not leave your email address a new winner will be chosen. Open to international entries.

Love Cotton & Steel? Enter to win a fat quarter pack of the yet to be released "Tokyo Train Ride" from Perfect Pattern Parcel, too! Click on the link above or the image below.

Orange: Shades of Me

Shades of Me Series: ORANGE by Jill Dorsey of Made with Moxie

What is Orange?
"Orange is a tiger lily, a carrot,
a feather from a parrot, a flame,
the wildest color you can name.

Shades of Me Series: ORANGE by Jill Dorsey of Made with Moxie

Orange is a happy day saying good-by
in a sunset that shocks the sky.
Orange is brave, Orange is bold,
it's bittersweet and marigold.

Shades of Me Series: ORANGE by Jill Dorsey of Made with Moxie

Orange is zip, Orange is dash,
the brightest stripe in a Roman sash.
Orange is an orange, also a mango
Orange is music of the tango.

Shades of Me Series: ORANGE by Jill Dorsey of Made with Moxie

Orange is the fur of the fiery fox,
the brightest crayon in the box.
And in the fall when the leaves are turning
Orange is the smell of a bonfire burning..."

The Sally Dress

My kids grow too fast to warrant my sewing very many clothes for them. They are in the prime of their growing and I swear they shoot up like fresh bean sprouts the instant I finish a garment for them. I do, however, love to make my daughter, Jane, dresses. She is such a princess, so when Shannon asked me to sew up her new pattern, The Sally Dress by Very Shannon, I was more than happy to.

A girlie girl at heart, Jane loves to wear dresses. I gladly sew them for her, not only because she loves them, but because I can make them so that they fit as a dress and she can then wear them as tunics and tops as she grows up, up, up.

In a Miley Cyrus world, I am in no rush to start dressing my three year old daughter in anything hootchie looking. The Sally Dress is an adorable vintage inspired dress with modern flair. It's modest and sweet as little girls should be, without the ruffles and uncomfortable details we all hated on our clothes as a kid. There are no zippers, snaps or buttons to fuss with (both she and I appreciate that) and the lined bodice means no seam allowances up against the skin.

Sally Dress pattern by Very Shannon || Made with Moxie

All pattern desigers should make a note here. Kids love pockets. The Sally Dress has huge, lined pockets that remind me of the pockets in Treasure Pocket Pants from the book Sewing For Boys. The are just fabulous. Jane wants to keep her hands in them. She wants to twirl around with her hands in them. She wants to fill them with acorns and leaves and everything else she can find.

Sally Dress pattern by Very Shannon || Made with Moxie

I made Jane's Sally Dress with one of the crazy sushi prints I got on my trip to Hawaii and a pink polka dot from JoAnn's. I wish I could pull off wearing a dress like this, without looking like a total nutter. The Sally Dress pattern sews up without a hitch, can be made in an afternoon, and is guaranteed to be loved by any little girl in your life. What more could you want out of a sewing pattern? A sale? A free pattern? I've got both for you today!

The Sally Dress is currently on sale as part of the Sew Fab Bundle. That's 26 patterns for less than $30. The only place else you an get patterns at a price like that is at JoAnn's on a sale Saturday, and who wants to deal with that madness?

Shannon has also graciously offered a free copy of The Sally Dress to a Made with Moxie reader! To enter the giveaway, use the Raffflecopter widget below.

My postal worker hates me

She's a lazy woman and doesn't like to get out of her mail truck which is what she has to do when I get large or more packages than she can jam into our mailbox. For someone who gets to wear jeans to work and sits on her tush all day she complains a lot. I want to tell her that the UPS and FedEx men never whine about the number of packages I get. And, quiet frankly, are much more attractive.

I won Fern's Frocks first SMS giveaway which was a set of 4 coasters made from this awesome owl fabric. When they arrived this week my daughter confiscated them along with a cute Hello Kitty ring. She loves it and wears it day and night on her index finger, like a mob boss.

To a two year old and an infant, coasters are great toys, so I decided to tear open a teeny hole in the seam of each and filled them with rice. Now they have a sweet set of owl bags to toss around. I also plan to microwave them so my husband can give me a faux hot rock massage. He thinks I'm kidding. I think I may need to make more.

Packages for the DS Charm Swap have been arriving everyday (much to postal worker's chagrin.) There are piles and piles of lovely Denyse Schmidt charm squares all over my cutting table. It's a shame I have to send the all back. I am fighting the urge to just run to the Mexican boarder with my sewing machine and live out the rest of my days in hiding, but with an impressive sized DS quilt.

I was checking off packages from my charm swap participant list and had one I couldn't find on my list. I was worried someone sent me fabric and had not signed up for an official spot. Or that I had royally screwed something up. Turns out it was the fabric I won on ImagineGnats' SMS giveaway from Contemporary Cloth Store!

It was a seriously generous offering of a half yard of each print. Thank you! I can't tell you how much I love the colors in the Stockholm line by Kaufman and the hand is amazing. I'm browsing for a fun quilt pattern for them right now. I need to make a new quilt so I can photograph it wrapped around my husband, shirtless, eating a spicy burrito.

You think I'm kidding, but I intend to have him be Mr. March in the 2013 Q.S.M.A.S.B.C. by the Bitchy Stitcher.

I wonder, do you think these colors compliment a naked man eating a burrito? :D
